Christian Rasmussen impressed with his performance at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 on Sunday, making over 70 passes to clinch third place behind Kyle Kirkwood and Pato O’Ward. Starting in 25th due to qualifying struggles, Rasmussen dealt with a fire and fuel issues but fought back to secure a podium finish.
Despite going a lap down, Rasmussen capitalized on others pitting and climbed to fourth place after Newgarden’s crash. A mid-race penalty and running out of fuel led to a restart in 18th place, but he quickly worked his way back into the top 10 and eventually finished third after starting the final 35 laps in 15th.
Rasmussen credited his car’s high-side performance for his success, noting the challenges of regaining positions after setbacks. This podium marked only his second top-10 finish on an oval, following his sixth place in the Indianapolis 500, showcasing his natural talent on oval tracks.
The Danish driver remained unfazed by the need to drive through the field twice, emphasizing his confidence in his abilities and consistency in advancing positions throughout the race. Rasmussen expressed his belief that a podium on an oval was a natural progression given his strength on such tracks throughout his career.
